On September 11, 2025, the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Pittsburgh Chapter hosted an engaging and thought-provoking education session at the Courtyard by Marriott University Center, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of students and professionals eager to deepen their understanding of the meetings and hospitality industry.
The highlight of the event was a keynote presentation by Michael Dominguez, President & CEO of ALHI Hotels, whose decades of experience and forward-thinking perspective captivated attendees. Dominguez addressed the challenges of navigating today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, offering clarity on conflicting data, economic uncertainty, and the structural shifts reshaping the hospitality sector.
Students expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly from a leading voice in the industry. Many noted how Dominguez’s insights into disruptive technologies, global dynamics, and changing consumer behavior helped them better grasp the complexities of the current business climate.
Grace Gallagher, a sophomore in the Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism, and Event Management (HOSP) Program and Student President of the student chapter of MPI, shared her enthusiasm:
“I had such a good time listening to the speaker, Michael Dominguez, talk about the current data within the hospitality industry. The presentation was very engaging and had lots of important information. Michael also spent time after the event with all of the students who were able to attend and answered everyone's questions.”
Adding to the academic perspective, Nicole Clevenger, Associate Professor of Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism, and Event Management, Faculty Advisor to the IUP MPI student chapter, and MPI Director of Student Involvement, reflected on the event’s significance:
“Events like this are transformational for our students.
